The Cricket Board on Thursday cleared the decks for ex-ICL players, who have been granted amnesty, to take part in the third edition of BCCI the Indian Premier League with a cap on their payment being a maximum of Rs 20 lakhs. “The ex-ICL players, who have been granted amnesty are eligible to play the IPL in the next season (2010) with the cap on the payment being a maximum of Rs 20 lakhs,” the BCCI said in a release after the meeting.
The decision to allow the ICL players to join the mainstream was taken by the BCCI’s Working Committee which also decided to increase the Ranji Trophy winners’ purse and revise the match fees for umpires and match referees. It said the prize money for the Ranji Trophy winners has been increased to Rs 2 crores, Rs 1 crore for the runners-up, and Rs 50 lakhs each to the losing semi-finalists.
The Working Committee also decided to give a financial assistance of Rs 25 crores to the All India Football Federation for the development of football in the country in the next two years. The BCCI Working Committee also decided to set up specialised coaching centres in Mumbai (batting), Mohali (fast bowling) and Chennai (spinners and wicketkeepers) from September. Specialist coaches will be appointed on an annual retainership at each of the centres, it added. The Working Committee also approved the setting up of an Umpires’ Academy in principle. Among other decisions, umpires and coaches will get Rs 7500 per match day while Rs 3750 will be deposited to their Benevolent Fund.
Umpire, coaches and match referees (IPL excepted) will be paid Rs 10,000 per match day. The Working Committee nominated Amish Saheba and Shavir Tarapore to the ICC International Panel and Sanjay Hazare as a TV Umpire. They also decided that the team and support staff which won the Emerging Players tournament in Australia will be paid a bonus of Rs 1 lakh each.

India had an early exit from the recent ICC T20 and will take this as a chance to come back from the upset they suffered at South Africa. When India came here in 2006, they had a mixed bag of results. They won the test series 1-0 but lost the ODI series to the hosts 4-1.
There is no Sachin Tendulkar, Sehwag, Raina and Zaheer Khan in the Indian squad, but still the team looks strong. West Indies surprisingly did not include Lendl Simmons and Darren Sammy in the playing squad. However, there is a new entrant, Darren Bravo, the younger sibling of Dwayne. Fidel Edwards will miss the 2 ODIs owing to his back injury and this certainly weakens the string.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: England spinner Monty Panesar was fined a quarter of his match fee by the ICC on Tuesday for excessive appealing during the fifth Test against West Indies.
“Monty Panesar is a very enthusiastic and exuberant bowler and there is nothing wrong with that, but on this occasion he has gone too far,” said Alan Hurst, head of the ICC’s elite panel of referees.
“On more than one occasion during the day, he began celebrating a prospective dismissal rather than appealing and waiting for the decision to be made, thereby not showing due respect for the role of the umpire,” Hurst said. “He is an experienced player who should know this action is not in the spirit of the game.”
Amjad Khan was let off with a reprimand. “This is Amjad Khan’s first Test match and I am willing to accept that he didn’t fully appreciate the importance of adhering to the ICC Code of Conduct,” Hurst said. “In his defence, he apologised for his actions to the on-field umpire immediately after the incident and again at the hearing. It was an isolated incident, but at the same time he has to learn that all players must show due respect for the role of the umpires.”
