Australia will be looking forward to a decent total to defend and once again they will depend upon Cameron White for a good start. On the other side England will not rest on their laurels and is expected to charge back. However the team will definitely miss Andrew Flintoff whose knee injury will keep him out of the game for some time now. After the loss of Ashes, Australia was hoping for a little revival of their honor by winning the T20 games at least, but rain god marred the first T20 match and it finally got abandoned with a nil-all result.

In the match Aussies were inching forward for a better edge as Brett Lee and Johnson opened against England with full fury. They were definitely looking on top when rain intervened the match.Aussies were hoping to continue with their charged-up emotion in the forthcoming T20 match on September 01, 2009 at Manchester. Aussies will be captained by Michael Clarke and Paul Collingwood will lead England.

Australia currently holds The Ashes, after beating England 5-0 to regain them in 2006-07. The next Ashes series will be held in England in 2009. npower currently sponsor the Ashes series played in England.

The Ashes is one of the most fiercely contested competitions in cricket.

The failure of England to regain the Ashes for 16 years from 1989, coupled with the global dominance of the Australian team, had dulled the lustre of the series in recent years throughout most of the cricketing world, although it has remained the most popular cricketing contest for Australians. However, the close results in the 2005 Ashes series, and the overall high quality and competitiveness of the cricket greatly boosted the popularity of the sport in Britain and considerably enhanced the profile of the Ashes around the world. It remains to be seen whether the lopsided results of the 2006-07 Ashes series will have a negative impact on this newly acquired popularity outside of Australia.

Coverage of all the action from the 2009 Ashes Cricket series. Will England take them home or are Australia strong enough to stop them.

England vs Australia 3rd Test Live Online

After Cardiff and the Lords, now the focus shifts to Edgbaston. It is here the 3rd test between Australia and England will be played from 30th of July for the ongoing Ashes series. The home team England has already taken 1-0 lead in the 5-series Test matches. Thanks to superb bowling by Freddy who had been the match winner for the English. Australia media though slammed at the umpiring at Lords. They even portrayed South African umpire, Rudi Koertzen as clown. Team Australia will come with full armory to prove their mettle with an attempt to level the series at Edgbaston.

In the Australian team Mitchell Johnson was much talked about bowler, as he literally pulled victory for Australians in the recently concluded tour to South Africa. However, he failed in the English conditions and could not perform well in the first two test matches. He lacked in accuracy and consistency. The Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin though backs the bowler and hopes that his performance will soon make headlines in a positive way. Australian captain Ricky Pointing too seems in no hurry to drop Mitchell Johnson nor is he shaking up the team for any major changes.

After the historic win at the Lords (first win at the ground since 1934) the English team seems well on the top in the overall performance of their team members including Andrew Flintoff (he kind of charges up when its Ashes and his 5-wicket haul has turned match in favor of the English), confident batsmen in the form of Matt Prior and Alastair Cook and of course the big century of Andrew Strauss. There could be a little change in the batting line up with Ian Bell all set to come into the team and join at Edgbaston. It being his home ground it is expected that he would come back with brilliant performance with his bat. There could be some minor changes in the bowling line up, but the English cricket management said it will only disclose the playing 11 after the toss.

Australia face record chase to win. Australia were left needing to set a new world record if they were to win the second Test against England at Lord’s. England, when rain forced an early close on Saturday, the third day, were 311 for six, a lead of 521, with two days remaining.

Whether they declared on that total overnight, as seemed likely, or batted on, it meant Australia would have to set a new world record for the highest fourth innings total to win a Test, surpassing the 418 for seven made by the West Indies against Australia in Antigua in 2002/03.England, bidding for a first Test win over Australia at Lord’s in 75 years, were indebted to a stand of 86 in 74 balls between Paul Collingwood (54) and wicket-keeper Matt Prior (60).

Their innings had stalled during the second session but Prior, who faced just 42 balls with nine fours, regained the initiative, and helped justify captain Andrew Strauss’ decision not to enforce the follow-on, before he was run out by Marcus North’s direct hit. Collingwood, who’d batted for over six hours to help England secure a draw in last week’s series opener in Cardiff, posted his third fifty in four innings in a brisk 72 balls.
